For this project, we needed to create a magazine spread design in the style of an existing magazine. I chose Whalebone, which is a magazine that stuck out to me as I took a field trip to Barnes & Nobel. Their style is very lively, yet clean. It feels playful and interesting with a maturity to it that makes it not feel like a teen's magazine.
The article I chose for this project came from the Whalebone website and is an interview with surfer and former Bachelorette contestant, Hunter Jones. Because of the organic nature of surfing, I wanted to add organic elements to my design while still keeping the clean overall style of the magazine.
My design changed from my initial thumbnail sketch. I was having second thoughts about the design once adding it to InDesign. And so I made some adjustments to the final design.
